NASHVILLE-AREA LONG JOHN SILVER’S TO MAKE DONATION TO SUMNER COUNTY FAMILY FEATURED IN ‘EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION’

Company to Donate 10 Percent of Net Sales on Friday, Aug. 11

LOUISVILLE, KY, August 7, 2006 – Fourteen Long John Silver’s restaurants in the Nashville area are teaming up to provide financial assistance to the Hawkins family, whose heartbreaking story attracted the attention of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” The restaurants will donate 10 percent of sales on Friday, Aug. 11, to a trust fund set up to support the Hawkins family.

Amy Hawkins saved the lives of her children Jair and Cole when a tornado destroyed their Sumner County home in April. She rushed the children to the basement and covered them with her body as the tornado struck their home. Although the children were safe, Amy suffered serious injuries that have left her in a wheelchair. She only recently was able to return home after therapy.

“It’s been really heartwarming to see our community pull together to help this brave woman and her fine family,” said Don Crockett, an Area Coach for Long John Silver’s who knows the family well. “The employees who work in our Nashville-area restaurants are excited that we’re going to be able to provide some financial assistance.”

Thanks to the efforts of local citizens, the names of more than 50,000 supporters from across the country were submitted to ABC-TV, making the Hawkins family the most nominated family in the four-year history of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Their new home was completed last week and the program will air later this year.

Local residents and businesses are also doing their part to assist the family, and on Friday, Aug. 11, Long John Silver’s customers can lend a hand. On that day (from open to close) at all 14 locations in the Nashville area, 10 percent of sales (not including tax) will be donated to the trust fund set up for the family.

“We hope to raise at least $2,000 for the Hawkins family, and we’d be thrilled if we raise even more,” Crockett said. “This will be a great reason for our customers to visit on Aug. 11, enjoy a great meal and raise some money for a great cause.”

Long John Silver’s restaurants participating in the fundraiser include the locations in Columbia, Dickson, Lawrenceburg, Fayetteville, Pulaski, Paris, Huntsville, Cookeville, Winchester, Madison, Clarksville, Murfreesboro, Springfield and Smyrna.
